Strategic partnership for international schools

Strengthen the school beyond the next visit.

International schools carry distinctive complexity: an internationally mobile workforce, demanding growth, multiple cultures and languages, owner or board expectations, changing regulation and intense scrutiny from families and external bodies.

I work alongside heads, senior leadership teams and governing bodies to examine what is happening, align people and priorities, strengthen accountability and make impact visible.

The work is shaped around your school, your strategic priorities and the external framework relevant to you.

When an external strategic partner adds value

You may be:

  • preparing for an external review;

  • responding to previous inspection, accreditation or review findings;

  • seeking objective challenge before pressure becomes urgency;

  • aligning a new or restructured senior leadership team;

  • strengthening the link between the school improvement plan and leadership accountability;

  • examining academic outcomes, curriculum or sixth-form strategy;

  • preparing leaders and governors to explain impact with precision;

  • reviewing governance, reporting or the relationship between owners, board and school leadership;

  • leading significant organisational change; or

  • working towards sustained excellence and wanting an external view of what may still be missing.

Areas of work

Strategic review and external challenge

A focused examination of the school's priorities, leadership, evidence and capacity. I test assumptions, identify strengths that need protecting and surface gaps that internal familiarity can make difficult to see.

The outcome is a prioritised view of what deserves attention, what can wait and what needs to change.

Accreditation readiness

Support grounded in close to a decade of leading British Schools Overseas inspections.

The work may include document review, interviews with leaders and governors, evaluation of evidence, preparation against the accreditation/inspection standards and precise feedback on how clearly leaders can explain practice and impact.

Inspection decisions always belong to the appointed inspectorate. This work strengthens the school's readiness, self-knowledge and ability to evidence what it does.

Senior leadership alignment

Talented individuals do not automatically become an aligned team.

I work with senior leadership teams to establish shared priorities, decision rights, accountability, productive challenge and a common language for improvement. The work is particularly valuable for new, restructured, multinational or multilingual teams.

Governance and board partnership

Effective governance depends on an honest relationship between ambition, assurance and operational reality.

I support boards, owners and school leaders to sharpen strategic questions, clarify roles, strengthen reporting and ensure that challenge is connected to the difference the school intends to make for pupils.

Evidence, impact and leadership narrative

Schools generate large volumes of information. The challenge is to distinguish activity from evidence and evidence from impact.

I help leaders connect priorities, action, measures and outcomes so that the story they tell is accurate, consistent and supported by what pupils and staff experience.

The 4A Strategic Improvement Framework

The work is organised through four connected moves:

1.  Audit: Where are we now?

2.  Align: What matters, and who owns it?

3.  Adjust: What needs to change?

4.  Articulate: What has changed, for whom, and how do we know?

The framework can shape a single review, a term of external challenge or a longer partnership.

What a school partnership can include

  • Initial conversation with the head, CEO or governing body.

  • Review of strategic plans, self-evaluation, previous reports and key evidence.

  • A diagnostic visit or series of focused virtual meetings.

  • Interviews with leaders, governors and other agreed stakeholders.

  • Observation of leadership practice, meetings or key aspects of school life where appropriate.

  • A concise report identifying strengths, risks, priorities and recommended adjustments.

  • Mock inspection or review interviews with precise individual and team feedback.

  • Coaching for the head, senior leaders or governors.

  • Follow-through meetings to review implementation and impact.

  • Each engagement has a defined purpose, scope, timetable, confidentiality agreement and output. Work relating to further accreditation or quality-assurance frameworks is agreed according to the school's context and the expertise required.

What leaders say

Nadine has quickly become an invaluable partner to us, helping to sharpen our strategic focus and build a culture of genuine reflection. Through insightful coaching, she has given the team the confidence to drive real improvement. Her forensic eye for detail has ensured that we have evidenced our work with total precision.

Karen Jones, Principal, British International School Riyadh Al Hamra (Saudi Arabia)

Nadine asks precise, well-judged questions that push thinking and demand clarity around impact. She is able to move seamlessly between strategic oversight and operational detail, which has been critical in strengthening and aligning our whole-school approach.

What does your school need to see more clearly?

The first conversation is an opportunity to discuss the school's context, timetable, priorities and the form of external challenge that would add most value.
